    I bought this book on the strength of reviews of Jagendorf s 2001 Booker finalist Wolfy and the strudelbakers I confess I didn t realise these were old reviews I thought they were comments on Jagendorf s new book I was deeply disappointed in this book Jagendorf assembles a complex cast of characters in 1962 Jerusalem, with Eichmann s trial about to commence One of the characters, Milo cooks up a fantastic project author s words to compete with the Eichmann trial and to challenge the sense of safety that trial will bring Milo s project is to re enact the biblical Flood, re cast in modern Jerusalem Perhaps as a plot this could have worked But Jagendorf burdens the story with multiple digressions and distractions from popular culture and world religions Each of the many characters seems to have a highly eccentric world view meaning that conversations become abstract a...
